Mark Adams extraordinary water color art

Mark Adams

I would like to take a moment to talk about an extraordinary artist named Mark Adams. Mark Adams was a renowned American artist who is well known for his amazing watercolor art which often depicted still lifes and landscapes with a delicate interplay of light and shadow. Mark Adams was born in Fort Plain, New York circa 1925 and he grew up on the East Coast. Adams' early art training focused on how to create large-scale tapestry, crafting stained-glass through opportunities to do commission work as well as drawings and watercolor paintings. He studied under Hans Hofmann in New York and later refined his skills in tapestry design with Jean Lurçat in France.

In the mid-1970s, Adams transitioned to watercolor painting in order to develop an intimate and personal style of working with painting on canvas as well as other mediums. The watercolor art created by Mark Adams was characterized by vivid, translucent color washes and meticulous draftsmanship which often elevated his subject matter such as flowers, hats, and simple still lifes into complex visual compositions.

Adams' work is also represented in several prestigious art collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Monterey Museum of Art where his legacy continues to be celebrated through exhibitions and retrospectives, such as the 2012-2013 Art Exhibition event held at Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco.

Take some time to visit an art exhibit that features the extraordinary art work of Mark Adams at a museum or art gallery near you?
